I am the best friend, I am my own worst enemy
I am the politician and the preacher
The verbal deceit, the unspoken truth
Still the student but yet a teacher
I am the unknown superstar
The father and prodigal son
The saintly demon who is happiest crying
The winner of the race I have never run
Somewhere under my masks I exist
A person never seen and rarely missed
And identity more forgotten than used
A life more exploited than abused
Do you know me? Do you think you can?
I see you looking close – can you see the man?
Under the turmoil there is a peace
A happy depression, a caged release
A life full of harmony, yet not quite a song
Impatient for love, yet waiting too long

So, it January 5th and here I am sitting on an aircraft at Teeside airport. I was meant to be in Newcastle (perhaps I still will be, a fueling truck has just arrived), but he snow has closed all the airports and we have been forced to land at a location unable to deal with our size of aircraft, so we get to sit and wait.
They released a few of the trapped – those with no luggage in the hold were released into the cold, for the most part happy to have been delivered North of the Watford gap.
But, within 15 minutes of waiting, the revolt has begun. Not against the weather, the cause of our current calamity, but rather at the BA staff, the aircraft and the captain. Surely there must be something they can do – whatdo you mean the plane needs de-icing?
Kids sitting behind me begin to sing Christmas songs (we are still so close to Christmas they are painfully fesh), which has gone from being one of the most joyous sounds to one which could be compared with Chinese water torture or having a wisdom tooth pulled.
The requests for food are met with disdain by the cabin staff, forced to respond with the meager rations of peanuts and biscuits – people are concerned and only 20 minutes have passed.
The mild scent of the combined effluence of 100 human beings trapped in tube begins to fill the air and no matter how had the airconditioning blows it simply circulates the arrangement of odours around the aircraft.
The obligatory hero business man (probably the chairman of an IT company) offers completely unqualified advice to the cabin staff about how this could be organised better, how, if he was responsible would ensure his (customer) service was better.
Nervous people make paniced telephone calls fustrate by the singing of the children, made worse by another passenger encouraging them in a chorus of “Bob the Builder”
Little sympathy is given for the cabin crew who have been on duty since 5am, it must be their fault we are trapped – noone says it to
them, but the passengers pleading looks beg for the miracle solution which cannot be delivered, and further discussion now moves on to
“surely we could have landed at Newcastle”.
And so we wait. Another message that Newcastle airport has closed again. We wait for our captors to release us – but thier captors (BAA,
the weather, the tower and working regulations) seem to not want us to leave.
Will I ever escape from Teeside?

Of all the revolutions of past generations, the information revolution has been, for the most part, unresisted in it’s relentless drive to make us more efficient and more connected. We are connected and communicating in ways which even science fiction did not dream, everything from buying a pizza to paying our taxes.
The Internet has provided access to information in an inter-linked, unmoderated information source, enabled remote learning and connected individuals across the globe in a way never before seen.
And yet, for all this, is the world a better place? Are we wise enough as a species to truly understand the impact of the engine we have created?
For many years, the saying “knowledge is power” has been a driving mantra. In more recent years this has changed as recognition of knowledge sharing has lead to “knowledge plus action equals power”. This is certainly true from a corporate perspective.
At an individual level, I would suggest that the level of information available means that with so many “self declared” experts, “knowlege equals paranoia”.
Has my access to information allowed me to better the world? Locally, no – what it has given me is a whole new set of issues to worry about, manage and get involved in, all of which meet my morale and ethical beleifs, but often I am focused on the world, rather than the piece of me which surrounds me.
It is common to hear people talk about the breakdown of communities whilst the Internet boasts booming online and virtual communities where the “tribe” members have never even met. A neighbour can die, and we do not even know their name, and yet Paris Hitlon sneezes and 20% of the world know about it immediately.
We have homelessness is our streets, a Government which beleives it must take care of us in a way which removes Our ability as individuals, parents and friends to develop and pass on wisdom learnt from experience. Many policies born out of “political correctness” – which should define the principles which we should aspire to, not implement rules which restrict freedom. The web provides a platform for political correctness gone mad. It provides access to unmoderated and unbalanced information which can appear official and certified, and the wisdom to seek out both sides of an argument to develop real understanding has, in many cases been reduced to reading opinions found through a google search.
The Internet has provided new avenues for companies and governments to sell to us – to market to our fears. Ask yourself this, does the fact the your new mobile device gets email, phone calls, SMS and allows you to surf the internet has truly improved your life or just increased the amount of stress you can fit into a day? You have to have to have it though – that’s the really clever marketing – you might the disadvantaged if you don’t, because someone else might be willing to have that additional stress!!
So, we can now communicate with the world – from anywhere on our mobile devices. But we have forgotten how to communicate and care for the environment and people around us.
We can take on so many vital global causes, and yet we forget the needs of those closest to us, those lives where we can truly make an impact. Often these needs can be fulfilled with an investment of just our time, and surely with all our time saving devices there is no excuse, huh?

I prefer not to think of an ending, but rather of a new beginning and January 1st represents a symbol of change – an excuse to put off change to a date in the future and a date to remember that positive change occurring.
Nothing to drastic – no unmaintainable promises to change my diet, go to the gym more or spend more time with my family – rather just a change in attitude.
A decision to simply offer a little more of myself to the world and those around me.
To everyone I hope that the best of your yesterdays are the worst of your tomorrows. Peace and much love.

A Rant from Mark (InspiredFunk)
It was a morning when I felt less pride in being British than ever before (and believe me, while working as an entertainer in Greece and Holland, I saw enough of the British Abroad to cause me to lose most of my pride).
Front page of the news paper – “Britain is the Home of Bad Parents” – something which, despite my immediate “How dare they!!” reaction, in the cold light of day, could well be true.
When I look around my home town, I see a truly high density of “dysfunctional” families, and I realise that the norm is no longer Mum, Dad and the kids, its a single parent, transient partners and kids!
More than this, the structure of discipline and respect which once existed has all but been destroyed as communities have been broken down, and political correctness strives to remove all fear from life, forgetting that fear is a key component in learning and establishing baselines of behaviour.
This might sound a little controversial, particularly to the politically correct crowd who say you should never even shout at your child, or that Teachers have no right to discipline a child, but I will attempt to justify my position…..
I remember when I was about 4 or 5, on one of my first trips to pre-school, I spent the first hour or so crying, after burning my arm on one of the impossibly hot School radiators hanging on the wall in our room. For the rest of my school life, this was not a mistake I made again, and when I did want to touch a radiator, perhaps to warm my hands, even up to date, I am more tentative and realise I need to test the heat before sticking my arm straight to it. This is because, that first time, the pain made me afraid to do it again – fear played a big part in establishing a behaviour pattern which would continue through the rest of my life.
OK – granted this is a bizarre example, but it was one of the simplest, I felt, which illustrated the importance of fear in gaining a respect for things around you and how you interact with them….
Jump forward a few years, young Mark lurking around in middle school, caught for some minor theft and waiting for punishment. My father had slapped me a few times as a child, and that stinging in my legs is still there when I think about it. I am not saying he beat me – he didn’t, but he slapped me, it stung, and I did not want to have it happen again, so, just like the radiator, I became aware and afraid of the consequence of disobeying my father or overstepping the ethical boundaries of the household. My eventual punishment for the minor theft was another slap, and a good few weeks grounding – I was angry, rebellious, but had enough fear and respect (probably from the early “lashing”) to obey my punishment, and whilst I may not have sincerely said “sorry” and may even have lay in bed thinking about how much I hated my parents for a while, I then knew the consequences of my actions, and that if I did it again, it would be worse…
I was not a particularly good kid – I was polite, perhaps even bright – but this was tempered by a need to excite life and my wrong-doings included everything from breaking and entering, vandalism, theft, grand larceny … and, I honestly believe that if I had not had the “fear” of consequence put into me, I would have strayed far further from the straight and narrow, and would probably now either be in prison, or dead.
But it was not just my father and mother who looked after me – the community was also playing a role. Teachers had power – power, not only to talk to your parents (bringing in the base “fear”), but also to punish. Police Officers too, could drag you home to your parents – something they would not dare to do today.
WE have broken down society – political correctness, never saying the wrong thing, never wanting anyone to be “fearful”, or taking away basic tools from parents disabling them from getting the right ethical and moral lessons to their children. Nowadays you could not slap your child’s legs like my father used to do mine in public without someone reporting you to the Child Protection Agency!
We have taken power away from our teachers – are “all inclusive” approach to education plants the uncontrollable with those who wish to learn, with little or no power given to the teacher to discipline the uncontrollable – worse than this, we have seen complaints made and upheld against teachers for taking a stand, even against physical violence.
We have removed the powers of our Police – thinking we are making life better by complicating law by defining hundreds of new crime categories and sub-categories to excuse the inexcusable, increasing the paperwork and barriers to conviction faced by the officers. More legal loopholes for minimising punishment have been opened, the only beneficiaries being the criminals and the legal representatives.
Our kids are not respectful, or fearful of consequence from the Police, many seeing them as a target for pointless abuse rather than a resource to call on in times of trouble (it’s easier to reach for a knife!). Long gone are the days when the local bobby would drag you home to your parents by your ear!!
Our nanny state removes the power of parents to utilise fear as one of the tools in their arsenal. Fear of consequence has gone – in fact, more than this, many kids know exactly how far they can push the law and how well “protected” they are. Our Police no longer have the respect that they deserve, but then they do not have the powers that they need.
What can I say – I am sorry, I am not politically correct – I do not agree that no action is the best action, that I should hide or disguise something which is right and true because of political sensibilities. I do not believe in the Nanny State which Britain has become – telling me how to raise my children when, if you look at the record of the past 30 years, the Government has not exactly achieved improved citizenship or inclusion (two of their key targets) and the rate of marriage failure and births to single parents (with all its additional cost to the economy and me as an individual) is ever on the increase. People are more isolated, children grow without either the family network or the real life social network required to develop those skills which make us “civilised”, and slowly, every day on the streets of Britain more of our children die, killed by other children, why? Because they have a cause to fight for? No! Because they have nothing to do? No! Because society has become dependent on constant excitement and the desire to “get rich quick”? Probably!

Traditionally, Royalty Free Music had to be licensed each time it was used as part of a production or broadcast. For instance, TV programmers would have to pay a ‘Needle drop fee’ each time the music was used as part of a broadcast i.e. every time the needle was dropped on the record! The disadvantage is that it could be expensive and time consuming.
Royalty Free Music (RF music) is simply a way to make licensing music easier, cheaper and more convenient.
The Convenience of Royalty Free Music
The convenience of RF music means that it is an excellent solution for most production companies. The music is usually composed especially to work with TV, film, radio, computer games or multimedia. Its very composition targets certain moods, genres or themes. It is tailor-made for that exact purpose and fits the criteria of most production music needs.
The music at beatsuite.com has been hand picked so that, in their opinion, it is high quality, has a professional sound, works with visuals and relates to the styles/genre’s of modern day audiences. They try and give you the best new music that is both suitable for the project and also has the highest quality sound and production qualities.
There are, of course, many sites on the web which can provide you with Royalty Free music, video and picture stock – some are expensive, some exceptionally reasonable – a quick search in Google for “royalty free music video” will reveal many sites – many of which will offer you the opportunity to sell your own songs through their site, royalty free – just remember – this means that people can apply your track/video/creative content made available in any way they choose, restricted only by any specific requirements defined in a license.
As such, for music, the Commons Creative License has now become the Royalty Free alternative.
